The 2010 Spring Champion Stakes is set to jump this Saturday at Randwick Racecourse. As there are just a couple of days left before the race, the final field has been announced with Peter Snowden’s stable leading the pack.
Retrieve will be jumping from barrier number five with jockey Joshua Parr in the saddle.
Retrieve is listed as a heavy odds on favourite to win the Group 1, $400,000 event as the three-year-old colt is listed at $2.10 odds. The son of Rahy has been showing impressive form in his debut Australian spring racing season. He cemented his status as the horse to beat in the upcoming Spring Champion Stakes with a fantastic run in the Gloaming Stakes (1800m) two weeks ago. He beat out a field of quality gallopers, including fellow Spring Champions Stakes runner Erewhon, to win by a very convincing 2 ½ lengths. The Snowden-trained colt will be jumping from barrier number five with jockey Joshua Parr in the saddle.
Stable mate Erewhon is listed as the third favourite at $7.50 odds – a status he shares the David Payne-trained Praecido. Erewhon will be jumping from barrier number three while Praecido is in fantastic position in barrier number one.
Giresun – another Snowden-trained runner – is listed as the second favourite at $5.00. The three-year-old brown colt is coming into the Group 1 event on the heels of three fantastic performances, including his most recent outing in the Spring Stakes (1600m) in which he ran second to Ilovethiscity. He’s looking set to put up a fight for the $400,000 title this weekend. Giresun will be jumping from barrier number four with jockey Corey Brown aboard.
The 2010 Spring Champion Stakes will be one of four Group 1 events to take place this Saturday, October 2 at Randwick. Don’t forget to also check out The Metropolitan (2400m), Flight Stakes (1600m), and Epsom Handicap (1600m).
Don’t forget to check out all of the horse racing odds ahead of the Group 1 event. Of course, there is no better place to go for all of the odds than SportsBet. They’re offering the most generous odds on all of these spring carnival events, including the 2010 Spring Champion Stakes.
