Tough Task For It’s A Dundeel In 2012 Spring Champion Stakes

October 5th, 2012

Jockey James McDonald has conceded that his mount, It’s A Dundeel, will have to be at his best if he has any hope of winning the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes at Royal Randwick racecourse tomorrow October 6, 2012.

It’s A Dundeel will come up against Gai Waterhouse’s Proisir in the $400,000 race, and McDonald perceives him as the biggest danger.

“There’s a pretty good horse in the field on Saturday, the horse of Gai’s who is going to be hard to beat,” McDonald said.

“Especially considering my fella is a backmarker and he is an on-pace runner, so he’s going to be hard to run down.

“But I’ve got a bit of confidence in my horse – he goes pretty well.”

It’s A Dundeel and Proisir are both looking to keep their flawless race records intact, which has seen neither of them be beaten in any of their career starts.

The three-year-old It’s A Dundeel has won all four of his race starts and has earned more than $165,000 in prize money.

His most recent race win was in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes at Royal Randwick on September 22, 2012.

It’s A Dundeel is nominated for the Group 1 Victoria Derby and $3 million Cox Plate later in the spring, and will be looking to prove himself worthy in the 2012 Spring Champion Stakes.

“He’s a colt that only does what he has to and that’s what he has done to date,” McDonald said.

“Hopefully he can keep that picket fence going.”
