The 2013 Spring Champion Stakes is run under set weight conditions and is open to three-year-olds only.

Scheduled as part of Spring Champion Stakes Day, the race shares its program with the Group 3 Angst Stakes.

It’s A Dundeel won last year’s Spring Champion Stakes by a head in front of Proisir, who placed second, and Honorius, who finished the race in third.

The now four-year-old has was very dominant throughout his three-year-old season, also winning the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes.

He went on to finish second behind Super Cool in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase in his next start, before placing seventh of 16 runners in the Group 1 Victoria Derby in his final race of the spring.

The Spring Champion Stakes was the first of many Group 1 wins, which now include the Group 1 Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and ATC Australian Derby.

It’s A Dundeel has won eight of his 12 race starts and has earned more than $2.11 million in prize money during his career.

This proves the Spring Champion Stakes to be a great indication of upcoming three-year-old talent and the winner is sure to go on and win further features throughout the 2013/2014 season.
