Press Statement has already stamped himself as a genuine Group 1 performer for Chris Waller this year and has been included in 2015 Spring Champion Stakes nominations.

Taking out a pair of minor Sydney sprints upon debuting to racing in late autumn, the Hinchinbrook colt stamped himself as a serious Spring Carnival contender when charging home to win the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben on June 6th.

Having been included in nominations for a racing return in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens this weekend (August 29th), Waller will allow form and early carnival results to dictate a berth in the Spring Champion Stakes for Press Statement.

Waller has included a total of nine three-year-olds in 2015 Spring Champion Stakes nominations.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse saddled Hampton Court to success in the 2014 edition of the Spring Champion Stakes and appears likely to mount a multi-pronged assault on this year’s race after including nine horses in nominations, including Kimberley Star and Sempre Libera.

Posting three wins and four minors through eight career starts so far, Kimberley Star stamped her claims as one to watch with a pair of strong performances in Sydney sprints in December before returning to the paddock.

Needing a couple of runs to find peak condition this time, the Star Witness filly responded well in taking out her next three competitive starts, including the All Too Hard @ Vinery Maiden (1300m) on July 1st.

Having run a close second to stable mate Speak Fondly in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) last time out, the filly appears in line for a standout Spring Carnival campaign.

Sempre Libera has not been seen at the races since finishing a credible fifth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) on May 9th, but appeared through her debut campaign to be looking for more distance.

John O’Shea and Godolphin Australia are spoiled for choice with the talented three-year-olds they have in work ahead of the Spring Carnival, and have included a total of thirteen in Spring Champion Stakes nominations, including Chachapoyas and last start winner Shards.

Having made a competitive transition to black type racing when second to The Barrister in the Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) on Day 2 of The Championships, Chachapoyas returned to the paddock after posting a maiden win in the Harold Aubrey Elliott Maiden (1600m) on April 25th.

Yet to finish outside the first three in four career starts, Shards beat a particularly handy field to the line in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1200m) on August 22nd; absolutely savaging the line and clearly searching for more distance.
