Yankee Rose remains a clear and justifiable $2.50 favourite in 2016 Spring Champion Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Prized Icon ($3.90) and Swear ($6.50).

With Yankee Rose justify favouritism and win the 2016 Spring Champion Stakes, or will one of her rivals claim a big upset?

Yankee Rose ($2.50)

Yankee Rose has been a strong and consistent performer throughout her entire racing career so far and should simply have too much class for her rivals in the 2016 Spring Carnival. Returning in autumn this year for a close second in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), the All American filly produced a dominant performance to win the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Day 1 of The Championships. Placing sixth in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) first-up this time, Yankee Rose ran on for a close second in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) last weekend. Drawn ideally in barrier 8, Yankee Rose will carry only 54.5kgs in the Spring Champion Stakes.

Honeywine ($12)

Godolphin colt Honeywine has returned to racing in slick form this time and should relish the 2000m of the Spring Champion Stakes 2016. Debuting to racing for fifth in the TAB.com.au Maiden Plate (1200m) on February 17th, the Street Cry colt resumed this time for fifth in the Mater Di School Maiden (1400m) before breaking through for a maiden win in the Corrimal RSL Plate (1500m) on September 6th. Having run a close second in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) last time out on September 24th, Honeywine will jump from the ideal barrier 2 with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.

Prized Icon ($3.90)

Prized Icon was a standout performer for James Cummings in autumn and could very well receive the run of the race in the Spring Champion Stakes from barrier 4. Prized Icon failed to finish outside the first three through six autumn starts, and ended his campaign with consecutive wins in the Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m). Resuming this time for fourth in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m), the More Than Ready colt failed to make an impact amongst open company in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) but responded well for third in the Gloaming Stakes last time out.
